Role And Impact:
As a Principal IT System Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining robust IT infrastructure and data platforms that power our mission-critical operations. You will architect and implement automation solutions, streamline deployment processes, and ensure high availability and security of our Linux-based environments. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive the integration of advanced monitoring, logging, and observability tools, enabling data-driven decision-making and operational excellence. Your expertise will directly influence the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our systems, supporting both current and future business needs. Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and maintaining Linux-based infrastructure and automation pipelines.
- Developing and deploying containerized services and data platforms.
- Implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions for proactive operations.
- Orchestrating workload scheduling and data pipeline integrations.
- Mentoring team members and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

What You Will Bring:
You bring a strong educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience. You have a proven track record as a Data Engineer, System Developer, or in a similar role, particularly within Linux-based, on-premises environments. Your expertise includes advanced Linux system administration (preferably Ubuntu Server), shell scripting (bash), and Python for automation and tooling. You are adept at building robust command-line tools and backend services, and have hands-on experience with Docker, including writing and maintaining Dockerfiles, managing containers, and implementing basic container security. Your skills extend to configuration management and deployment using Ansible, strong Git and GitLab proficiency, and defining CI/CD pipelines. You are experienced with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana, and can instrument services for metrics and logging. Your background includes working with relational time-series databases like TimescaleDB or PostgreSQL, workload orchestration with Slurm or similar tools, and building data pipelines and system integrations. Additionally, you have experience with flow-based integration tools such as Node-RED, designing and deploying flows in a controlled, versioned environment.
