Principal Instrumentation Engineer
Role and impact:
As a Principal Instrumentation Engineer at our new office in Krakow, you will play a pivotal role within the Instrumentation & Electrical Department of our Global Supply Technology division. Here you will:
- Lead instrumentation and control activities for assigned projects, ensuring the highest quality of deliverables and adherence to project schedules
- Prepare and review engineering documents such as control valve, pressure safety valve (PSV), flow, analyser, and control system specification
- Participate in process and instrumentation diagram, reviews, package and 3D model assessments, as well as HAZOP and SIL assessments and verifications
- Supervise sites and manage on-site instrumentation modifications, including inspections of instrumentation items such as thermocouples, Control valve, Flow elements and mist control units , and oversee factory and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT) of control systems
- Be involved in detailed engineering and procurement of instrumentation and electrical items within Topsoe’s scope of supply, collaborating closely with cross-discipline teams, project management, and procurement.

What you will bring
You have 15+ years of experience and hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent.
You bring a strong background in instrumentation and Electrical engineering of leading large scope Basic, Front-End Engineering Design or EPC projects. You have proficiency in instrumentation sizing and selection using tools such as Conval and Engineering Base, across Basic, Front-End Engineering Design or EPC projects.
A Functional Safety Engineer certification is preferred, and hands-on experience with exSILentia or similar tools is highly valued. You have practical experience in the procurement, inspection, and installation of field instruments, and familiarity with FAT/SAT and commissioning of electrical equipment is an advantage. Your knowledge extends to distributed control systems, emergency shutdown systems (ESD/SIS), and their specifications and architecture. You are well-versed in international standards such as ISO, API, ISA, IEC/IES, CE, and NEC, and have a working knowledge of electrical standards and hazardous area classification.
You thrive in multicultural environments, are willing to travel nationally and internationally (40-60 days in a year), and possess strong collaboration, networking, and communication skills.
