Principal Cost Estimator
Role and impact:
As Principal Cost Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing competitive cost estimates for Topsoe’s proprietary hardware and total installed costs for proposals and studies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including licensing, business development, proposal management, project teams, product management, and process and mechanical engineering—to provide expert cost-estimation advice that supports strategic management decisions.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Preparing cost estimates for proprietary hardware and total installed costs for proposals and studies
- Contributing to early-study and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) cost estimates
- Understanding the scope, contract, schedule, project execution approach, local conditions, construction execution, and financing assumptions relevant to each proposal
- Planning estimate methodologies that meet customer expectations
- Reviewing and benchmarking estimates using experience data and checking estimate quality
- Developing cost-estimation tools, methods, processes, and products
- Supporting standardization and effective execution of Topsoe technology solutions
- Presenting cost information to management to support decision-making
- Coordinating cost reviews with internal departments and, where relevant, customers and other teams
Your work will have a direct impact on the competitiveness and quality of Topsoe’s proposals and project delivery. You will also drive improvements in standardization and execution of Topsoe technology solutions, ensuring all estimates are well-founded, benchmarked, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and customer expectations.
What you will bring:
You bring a broad understanding of cost estimating, cost engineering, or related fields, ideally with experience in mechanical, process, or chemical engineering. Familiarity with Topsoe’s proprietary hardware design and technology solutions is highly valued. You are comfortable working with incomplete data and can apply structured, efficient methodologies to deliver high-quality estimates under pressure.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Ideally, around 10 years of relevant mechanical/process/cost estimating/cost engineering, or similar
- Strong collaboration and networking skills, enabling you to build effective relationships across disciplines
- Motivation for knowledge-sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement
- The ability to work in a structured, efficient way, manage multiple tasks, and maintain focus under pressure
- Proficiency in spoken and written English (Danish is advantageous but not required)
- Flexibility and openness to improving ways of working and contributing to the ongoing development of estimation tools, methods, and processes
- Experience in an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) environment are considered relevant, but not mandatory.
